Important Ethical Principles
....for doing business in the modern world
- Treat people fairly and honestly
- If it's people's lives vs profits, pick lives
- Don't delude people about whether it's people's lives vs profits
- Tell the truth
- Don't lie
- (these two are not exactly the same)
- Don't pick nits
- (like, well, gee, if I tell the absolute truth, that might hurt someone and well, gosh, that'd just be bad. Use your brain)
- Community and the environment can't be destroyed for profit because their destruction must be paid for and so the profit becomes merely 'taking'
- A good company doesn't lie and it doesn't steal
- A company that lies and steals isn't good
- Don't steal
- Don't encourage the passage of laws that make it appear to be all right to steal
- Loyalty to the job should be farther down on the list of choices than doing the right thing, not lying, and not stealing
- Legal and 'right' are not synonymous
