Zilla, zilla, zilla
DaveZilla has been told to get rid of his little lizard logo and change the name of his site by Toho, Inc who own Godzilla, the mighty lizard monster feared of man and Mothra.
Ericzilla has a site discussing the whole Davezilla vs Godzilla issue, including links to sites that changed their name in support of the Zilla cause: April GemZilla, BurningZilla, CraZilla Island.
And you can even take a quiz. Can you tell the difference?

Glad you linked to this; I hadn't seen it. Sounds to me like Toho would like to get some kind of zilla licensing fees from the big guys, they're failing, and now they'd like to establish some precedents by scaring little guys into caving (kind of after-the-fact for a precedent, tho)--or demonstrate their earnestness in defending their trademark against perceived infringements, to earn earnestness brownie points in court.
If they get really earnest, will they go after Cheers? For that Thanksgiving one at Darla's house? Where the turkey was so big it never cooked? And when everyone was about to kill each other, Darla said something like, "Well, we'd be outta here by now if someone hadn't put BIRDZILLA in the oven!" ?
I can just see the bleeped-out reruns now.

Yes, I hadn't thought of that...establishing a precedence. DaveZilla did say on his site that he was initally prepared to take the little lizard guy down and avoid trouble, but he's gotten so much support that he's going to keep it up, at least for now.
The biggest issue I have with current intellectual property issues, especially those that deal with certain types of popular entertainment and the use of 'cease and desist' orders is the way companies try to take culture away from us. And I know it's all wound up in profits and other complicated things, but at some point it's something I'd like to explore in more detail.
