Magic
Magic in a Certain Slant of Light is up at Strange Horizons
"If you could wish for something magical, what would you wish for?" Jeff asks Nora as he enters the kitchen.
Jeff has been gone all day, helping a friend fix the plumbing in his basement. There's no "Hello," or "How was your day?" Just Jeff, in the doorway, asking about magic. "It can't be about yourself," he continues. "I mean, like making yourself immortal. Or about world peace. It has to be—"
"Talking dogs," Nora says.

Deb:
I've heard of you on the sff.oww workshop, but this was the first piece of yours I've read. It is a fantastically realized piece. I'm amazed at how delicate it is and the "seeming ease" with which you pulled it off.
It's not sentimental, it's not overwrought, it's just true. It's awesome -- thanks.

Thanks for stopping by!
And thanks heaps for your comments on 'Magic...'
I was very much hoping for the reaction you had, but you never know if what you think you're writing and what actually comes out on the page are in any way related to one another.

Deborah,
Oh! What a beautiful story!! One of the best I've read this year. I adored the way you placed 'character want' within the story giving the loss even more depth and sadness for the reader. And written so very smoothly.
This is one of the very best stories I've read all year.
